At airport. This often a good place to start an international journey. Especially if one lives on an island. I'm not too sure how this bloggy thing works, particularly relative to seeing the profundity of sage and valuable youse are gunna add.
We first lodged the two dogs at the Customs centre which is about 10 minutes from the airport. They were farty bums all the way. So bad in fact, there was no doubt they weren't being unfairly getting the blame for patrick's windiness.
TIP for watching movies with NJC: the life of Pi is too too scarey when you are trapped in the next aircraft seat.
Singapore first. Trusting the system that our bags will end up at the same place and time as us, as we change flights at Singapore
And.....the winner is......the system. The transfer at Singapore, was so smooth as to be a clear indicator that the karma truck of destiny was rounding that bend.. Well it wasn't really a truck but a small van.
COLOMBO.....The travel agent stuffed up the taxi transfer arrangements. The flight number was wrong( they expected us hours earlier) and the driver had gone home for the night but then when they found a driver he took us to our hotel only that once he was gone we realised wasn't our hotel. Tuk-tuk taxi 4 am 25 deg 85% humidity, I'd be remembering the travel agent was not on the eid card list.
The Grand Orient Hotel. Built 1857- yeeeee oldee colonial charm. Wooden stair cases high wooden wainscotting, exhibition building style, (with less Greeks) three person lifts,
NO charm whatsoever at 430 am local time, and less charm at 0830 when the bathroom ceiling started to deluge.
So we now have a different and better room.
Did a quick walk/ tuk tuk tour for a couple of hours: lots of Sri lankan people a tuk tuks here.
Traffic in Colombo: side note. Quieter, less congested, slower, but even at 40 kph the fear factor is 150kph- the right hand lane belongs to the scariest, most aggressive driver.
More to follow.
